With any construction project, it is important that you follow the right steps. Failure to do so could result in the project not coming out the way you want, costing more money, or even breaking down. One of the first steps that needs to be taken for many construction projects is a site design and a land survey. These two things form a vital piece of the puzzle that allows the rest of the project to be completed successfully.

What Are Site Designs and Surveys

A land survey is essentially studying the landscape of an area, and learning everything about it.

Surveyors will examine what is in a specified area – such as any hills, dips, rock formations, trees, etc – using some advanced equipment. The goal is to know as much as they can about an area, to ensure that the planning phase has all of the information it needs.

Once they are done gathering the information, surveyors will draw up site designs based on what they learned. These site designs are essential for construction projects, as everything needs to be accounted for before you begin.

For example, let’s say you want to building a parking lot in the field next to your office building.

It looks flat enough, so you decide to skip the survey and site design, and go straight to putting down the asphalt. It looks fine once it’s complete, but then you start to notice some problems as time goes on.

Because of a slight slope, rain pools into a giant puddle right at the entrance to your new parking lot.

You also chopped up some tree roots while digging out the land, and now you have a dead tree overlooking the parking lot, with dead branches just waiting to fall on an unsuspecting car.

Finally, you didn’t measure your land accurately enough, and accidentally paved onto your neighbors land – now you need to pay more money to have the asphalt removed, and to return your neighbors land back to normal.

All of these problems could have been avoided if you had taken the time to have your land surveyed.

A proper site design would have shown the slight slope of the land, shown you exactly how far your land extends, and alerted you to the nearby trees.

Trying to construct something without formulating a detailed plan beforehand is only asking for trouble.

When You Need Land Surveying and Site Design

Of course, not every project calls for a complete survey of the land. If you’re just looking to have a sidewalk patched up, you probably don’t need to have the entire area surveyed.

You’ll want to hire someone to survey the land and come up with a plan any time you are working on a large project – such as installing a new sidewalk, putting down an entire parking lot, constructing a new building, or even purchasing a new home.

If you’re not sure, call Platinum Paving and we would be happy to talk to you about what you need.

While you don’t want to waste your time with an unnecessary surveying or site design, you also don’t want to proceed with any large project without one, so it’s always best to be on the safe side and get an expert opinion.

Choose Platinum Paving For All Of Your Surveying and Site Design Needs

It is important to not only get your land surveyed before a large project, but to make sure that the survey is done right.

There’s no point in getting it surveyed if the company you hire is going to do it wrong.

When you go with Platinum Paving, you are hiring a team of experts with plenty of experience when it comes to surveys and site designs.

We ensure that all of our measurements are right, and that we don’t proceed with construction until everything is in order.

Our goal is to go the job right the first time, and completing a solid land survey is the first step in that process.

If you have any questions for us about how the process works, please feel free to contact us at any time by calling 480-471-8018 or using our online form.

We would be happy to answer all of your questions about the importance of getting a survey done, and why you need a site design before you begin.

Don’t waste your time and money by skipping past the site design of your area before you begin construction.

Planning ahead is the key to any successful construction project, and we here at Platinum Paving are the masters at planning ahead.
